Journalspace.com is No More

Journalspace.com has lost everything and can't recover. Their site states that their entire database was completely overwritten by a software issue or a malicious act. No matter how the data was lost, their undoing appears to have been that they treated RAID as a backup and have paid the ultimate price for not having backups of the data that was their business.

And the victims of this failure are their users. They trusted that Journalspace would be there and now they're not. What percent of Journalspace users had a good backup? How many have their data backed up so they can recover? Thousands of journals were all lost from the lack of a good backup. How do you keep your data protected from an event like this? Do you have a good copy? Are your blogs at risk? Of course it is. Journalspace wasn't an insignificant provider and they crashed. You need to make sure that if something bad happens that your online blog survives.

It's as simple as this. Backup your data. Back up your blog data. Backup your websites. Back up your PC's. Just do it right, do it now, and get it done. And don't trust CD's, Tape, USB, or removable drives. They all use media and media isn't permenant enough. You need an online backup provider that makes protecting your data their business. The key features you should require is the ability to do incremental backups (to hold down cost). That it be an Internet backup so your data is offsite. That the backup volume looks like an attached network drive on your computer. And that your websites, pc's, blogs, servers, etc can be backed up. with a single account.

Compare some internet backup services right now. Locate the providers that have (at a minimum) these features and get your backup done now. Do it now. don't be like those that can't recover because their provider lost their data. Take responsibility for your data and make sure you don't suffer like Journalspace users are suffering right now.
